Planned development on site of Thornhill Youth Centre

13 July 2018

A planning application is in the pipeline for a valued youth facility in Thornhill. The proposed development would turn the site of the Thornhill Youth Centre and Boys Club into houses and flats. Local residents are appalled at the proposal, and Southampton & District Green Party shares their dismay.

Quite apart from the loss of the youth centre, which is much-needed in an era where there is little for youth to do, the site has a number of trees which are subject to Tree Preservation Orders and would need to be felled. We believe that green space is important to the area and there are better sites to turn into housing.

Also, the additional traffic generated by the new housing would add to existing congestion and air pollution in the area.

The planning application can be viewed on the council website here.
