Sunday afternoon saw a few people working off their lunches with a socially distanced community clean up. Households covered Kent Road, Belgrave corner, the area under the two bridges and Saltmead and its playground.
Items found were a pouffe, a head board, a suitcase and some clothes, cans, bottles and food wrappers. The council provided the litter pickers, bags and rings to keep the bags open.
Arti, 7, came along with his dad and said, “it was fun” and other families had brought a trolley so they could recycle glass and items that don’t have to go into landfill.
Katherine Barbour, who helped organise the event, said, “ it was great to be out in the community and since Kent Road has been blocked off the whole area has become more relaxed. It reminds me of my childhood in London.”
Further clean ups are planned and the next one is Sunday 25th April at 2pm meeting at the Junction pub in St Denys.
End.
