Members of the Green Party gathered in Southampton yesterday (21 May) to canvass opinions and hand out leaflets ahead of the European elections on Thursday.
They were accompanied by MEP candidate Jan Doerfel, an immigration lawyer who is one of ten nominees representing the South East Green Party. With Jan, the group walked around Southampton’s main shopping area and cultural quarter.
Jan said: “we’ve had many people come up to us today to stress the importance of taking decisive action to safeguard the environment, to effectively combat climate change and to tackle high levels of air pollution.”
“At the European level, it is important for the Green voice to be heard to make meaningful and lasting change. If elected, we will work hard on all environmental issues as well as tackling inequality and poverty.
He added: “Every vote counts. I would call on everyone to go out and vote if they haven’t already done so.”
Unfortunately, the #StopBrexit bus wasn’t able to make it to Southampton due to technical difficulties. The South East Green Party will head on towards Dover tomorrow, stopping off at Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge and Ramsgate on the way.
