Southampton Green Party to sign Clean Air Manifesto

26 April 2019

Southampton Green Party is delighted to be formally signing the Clean Air Manifesto produced by Clean Air Southampton today at 3.00pm outside the Civic Centre.

This document addresses the appalling state of air in our city and describes measures and actions that will effectively begin to tackle the poor air quality residents have been enduring.

Neither the Labour administration nor the local Conservative party are prepared to sign this document for reasons not yet fully understood by the creators of the newly published proposals. Meanwhile the city's air quality remains bad and the health of our citizens continues to be harmed.

Katherine Barbour the Green Party local Candidate for Portswood in the May elections blasted both the main parties for not taking air quality in Southampton seriously and signing up to something that can improve what has become a dire situation for those suffering from ailments like asthma.

Katherine said,

"we have worked with Clean Air Southampton and had some input into checking the manifesto so that it can be easily understood by politicians and technicians required to implement the proposals. Southampton City Council administration have already held back by not implementing a charging zone which we always believed was part of the solution"

"by continuing to avoid dealing with air quality in a more discerning manner Southampton Green Party are declaring that this must now be a major election issue for voters to consider".

End.

Notes: The Green Party are in support of Car Free Days which do work well around other cities like Bristol.
