9 April 2015

Southampton & District Green Party will be standing candidates across every part of Southampton in the 2015 local elections.  In addition, the party will also stand candidates in Eastleigh and Test Valley.

The party confirmed today that it has candidates lined up for all 16 wards in Southampton, giving all of Southampton's residents going to the polls the opportunity to vote Green for the first time. The Green Party also has candidates in seven wards in Eastleigh, and three wards in the Test Valley.

Southampton & District Green Party also confirmed that it is standing parliamentary candidates in Southampton Test, Southampton Itchen, Eastleigh, and Romsey & Southampton North.  It is expected that the party will receive a record number of votes because of the Green Surge occuring nationally.

Election Agent and candidate for Swaythling, Angela Cotton thanked all the candidates for standing. “It is a fantastic achievement that Southampton is now experiencing the shift in support for our party, and all our candidates can expect a much greater proportion of the vote than ever before. I thank our many members and candidates for embarking on this year’s campaign, and on May 7th all Southampton voters have the option to vote Green.”

“Given the present Government’s obsession with austerity, the electorate have a genuine alternative to the cut and burn mentality being dealt out to our public services. The Green Party offers hope in combating Climate Change, and we are confident we can manage an efficient Health Service by keeping it in the hands of the public – it is not for sale”.
